Anyone who has lived in a city, gone to university, or had a less than ideal housing budget has probably had to live in tight quarters. At first, it might seem that there is no possible way to function in such cramped spaces. But with the right furniture decisions and a few insider tricks you can definitely make the space both functional + fabulous. Check out my top 3 tips for living in a small space:

3 TIPS FOR LIVING IN A SMALL SPACE

DEFINE ZONES. A studio apartment has to serve lots of functions in one small space. It is important to chisel out distinct zones that you will use for sleeping, eating, study or work as well as entertaining. This will help the space feel organized and help you keep everything right where it needs to be. Maintaining a clean and simple layout will help the space feel less overwhelming.

SELECT MULTI-FUNCTIONAL FURNITURE PIECES. This goes without saying. When designing a small space every item you select must pack a maximum functional punch. In this particular project, we selected additional seating or ottomans for guests that fit under the side table near the entryway.

Multi-functional pieces were also selected for the media wall. Not only do the cabinets on either side of the TV provide much-needed storage they also define the space and act as end tables for two lamps.

USE VERTICAL SPACE. When floor space is limited you have to go up. Using the walls as additional storage space by adding shelves and mirrors is a great way to add visual interest + function to your small space. The mirrors help add light and bounce it around the room, increasing the perception of space.

By utilizing these clever tricks for small space living you are sure to have a space that meets all your needs plus looks good for when you have friends drop by ( or maybe just A friend since that’s all that can probably fit in there with you right?)
