Take a look at this gorgeous family room that was recently completed for a great e-Design client.  Similar to a recent project my client was moving into a much larger suburban house that was in need of A LOT of furniture.  I love when a project gives me the opportunity to build up from nothing and create a perfectly curated space that suits all the needs of a young family with lots of personality.

The client was sure they wanted dark gray walls but didn’t want the space to feel too dark or masculine. I came up with the scheme below based around one of my favorite gray paint colors: Benjamin Moore Dior Gray.

Touches of lighter grays, beige and cream accents help the space feel young and fresh.

Yellow  is a great complementary color to both gray and blue. Adding in small touches of accents didn’t feel like enough for this bold client so I suggested to paint the wall behind the built-ins in this bold gold choice.

My goal with any design plan is to provide something that feels that it has been collected over time.  I always want to avoid anything that feels too matchy-matchy or like it came in a 5 piece coordinated set. One trick to achieve this feeling is to

Add in one element that repeats key colors, patterns or textures in the space but also introduces variety within the same composition

This space had some really great trim and molding and I wanted to highlight it in the space. The dark walls were the perfect canvas to highlight some bright white trim. To make it pop even more

The ceiling was painted two shades lighter than the walls to let the trim shine.

Moving can be a stressful time, with so much to coordinate and think about. Check out the amazing progress the client is making. By following our simple design plan all of the guess work was taken out of the process and gave the client time to focus on enjoying time with family in their new home.

Our detailed 3D renderings helped them visualize the space before a roller ever touched paint. Saving time, expense and the hassle of having to repaint or re-select furniture that didn’t work for the space.
