I want to paint everything black. Literally every room in our new house, including the nursery. I find myself drooling over images of spaces with black walls that look so glam. It is dramatic and bold and really says you are not afraid of taking risk.

Although I haven’t yet had the chance to take the paintbrush to my new house—or convince my husband that black IS a suitable color for the dining room. I have been able to use this vivid color to transform a handful of e-Design client spaces.

On of my favorites was the transformation of this super plain, super white bedroom.  Using Benjamin Moore’s Day’s End paint color combined with a few minor décor and furniture changes we created a dramatic and cozy bedroom.

Before you get to painting keep in mind these couple tricks for using  dark paints:

  1. Always buy a sample and test it in the space. Dark walls can be amazing—but it’s always best ( with any color really) to test it out in the space. If you have a room with low ceilings or minimal light it might not be the best solution.
  2. Let your furniture pop. By selecting pieces that are light in color you create even more drama through contrast. Let the furniture pop off your walls by going with something white, gold or cream.
  3. Consider using an accent wall. If you are dead set on having a black space but don’t have the ideal conditions in your space (poorly lit small room for example) consider using it as a way to create a amazing focal point without overwhelming the space

Still feel like you need help pulling off black walls?  We can help!  We work locally with clients in Marquette, MI and virtually with clients around the world!

Sincerely,
Allison
