Entryways are the first impression of your home. It is where you get to set the tone for what the experience in the rest of your house will be like. Take a look around yours–what is it like? Outdated? Forgotten? Disorganized? Unconnected to the rest of the decor in your home?
The importance of a welcoming entryway is critical to creating a well-rounded design experience in your home.
Like many of you my client struggled with the same thing. This long hall was the main entry point for both homeowners and guests. It leads back through the house to their newly redesigned family room–remember seeing what I did for them here? The family room came out great–bold colors, fun patterns, a young and modern feel. Perfect for this newly relocated family. Yet the main entrance told a different story. In order to let the family room live up to the true potential it was important to connect it to the rest of the house, making the entire first floor feel cohesive, well thought out and like a true representation of the young family that lives here.
The design plane was simple. A few decorative touches, a touchdown point for keys, mail and phones to pile up, plus some much needed storage for shoes and bags. The dated wall sconces were swapped out for something that reflected the more industrial + eclectic style of the family.
An accent color was suggested along the right-hand wall to help lead you into the space and tie the color scheme together with what was going on in the family room.
Adjacent family room design + color scheme
The end result ticks all the design goal boxes we were going for. Not only does it provide functional storage and furniture pieces it connects the space to the rest of the house and creates a welcoming entryway for guests!

Looks great! Would love to know where that beautiful console table is from if you don’t mind sharing. And the mirror!
Hi Lindsay! The table is actually custom from a local seller on Etsy. I am sure there are probably ones in your area. Search for “hair pin console table”
