Trim is trim…right?

Wrong. Below are our favorite five ways to use trim to create unexpected interest in your spaces.

5 WAYS TO USE TRIM IN YOUR HOME

1.Ceiling trim works well when you have tall ceilings in a smaller room. Create a cozier, more dramatic look by visually bringing the ceiling down.

2. To break up wall space in a tall, narrow hallway or alcove, add chair rail. Bonus benefit: this gives you room to play with adding paneling or another wall color below the rail OR pain the top and bottom the same color and let the rail pop out in an accent wood tone.

3. Colorful baseboards or window trim can help refresh tired old trim, while adding a pop of unexpected color to make a classic trim feel more modern.

4. When you need to transition from one material to another – from tile or paneling to drywall, consider using a wood cap with some depth. This can be the perfect place to store bath supplies over a tub or act as a ledge for artwork.

5. Paneling isn’t anything to be afraid of! This can be a great way to add dimension — think behind a vanity instead of tile or as a focal wall in a dining space. .
