Before & After: Transforming an Underutilized Condo Space into a Moody Library
The Before: An Unused, In-Between Space
Every home has that one space that never quite finds its purpose. In this condo, it was an odd, windowless room tucked away from the main living areas. With no natural light and no clear function, it slowly became a catch-all for extra furniture, artwork, and pieces that hadn’t found a home elsewhere.
Without visual interest or intention, the room was rarely used—despite its potential.

The Plan: Leaning Into the Mood
Rather than trying to fight the lack of natural light, we decided to embrace it.
Our plan was to transform the space into a rich, layered, and cozy library—one that felt intentional, inviting, and deeply personal. From the beginning, our concept focused on:
- Painting the walls, trim, and ceiling in a dark, moody palette
- Creating depth and warmth through layered textures
- Removing the existing closet
- Replacing it with custom built-in cabinetry
- Concealing a daybed within the cabinetry for reading and relaxing
- Reusing as much of the client’s existing art and furniture as possible
The goal was to create a space that felt like a hidden retreat—perfect for quiet moments, reading, and reflection.

PROJECT REVEAL: MIDNIGHT LIBRARY
One of the most rewarding parts of this project was how closely the final result followed the original design vision.
From the start, our client trusted the process and was open to making bold choices—especially when it came to going dark in a space without windows. That trust allowed us to fully execute the concept without compromising the integrity of the design.
This project was designed and constructed entirely by our internal design + build team.
Handling both the creative vision and the execution allowed us to maintain consistency, quality, and attention to detail throughout every phase. From demolition to millwork to final styling, our crew ensured that the space was brought to life exactly as intended.
