We’ve covered high light, but how about the high humidity, high traffic bathroom?

For part 2 of this series,  Flower Works in Marquette gave us their best recommendations for bringing some greenery to your bathrooms.

THE BEST PLANTS FOR THE BATHROOM

Bright light bathroom (White, brass, gray)

Ferns

There are over 9,000 known species of ferns, but they all have similar care information. The one pictured is a staghorn fern. Ferns enjoy temperatures between 55- 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Ferns enjoy dappled bright light. The soil of the ferns must be moist at all times, but very well drained. Ferns also benefit from regular misting!

Pothos

Pothos come in many different color schemes! Pothos are a trailing vine, but will not cling to trellises. Pothos enjoy hanging freely, but pruning keeps this plant full and lush! Keep this plant at temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit at a minimum. Pothos can tolerate very low light situations, but absolutely no direct sunlight. Let the plant dry completely before watering. The less light the plant receives, the less watering the plant requires. Warning this plant is poisonous if ingested, but not lethal! Keep away from children and pets, place this plant accordingly.

Hoyas

Hoyas are beautiful plants, with many species having flowering abilities. Do not remove dead flowers. The hoya photographed is a Hoya carnosa variegate or tricolored. Hoyas are trailing vines and enjoy hanging freely with no trellis. Hoyas love bright indirect light, no direct sunlight. Keep away from drafty windows! This plant should be kept in temperatures over 50 degrees Fahrenheit. When it comes to watering, less is more. This plant enjoys to be completely dried out between watering. Avoid this plant if there is a latex allergy sap contains latex.

Air Plants

Air plants are distinctive because they do not require soil to survive. Air plants need weekly water baths and the water should be room temperature. Let the excess water drip off the air plants, you do not want the plant to rot. Air plant owners can also mist their air plants, but this will need to be done more frequently. Air plants prosper when temperatures don’t drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. These unique plants need bright indirect sunlight, never direct.
