Most often jewel tones are used as an accent color to add a pop of personality to a space. But in the case of this e-Design client these bright bold colors took over to create a beautiful blue and jewel tone living space.

When working with such a saturated and daring color palette it is important to start out with focus and direction to ensure that you don’t get overwhelmed with too much of a good thing. In the case of this project I was asked to design several spaces in an open concept first floor home. Since all the spaces were visible from one another I wanted to create a consistent color story that repeated the same colors through the space but in different quantities. Creating this ‘color story’ throughout the first floor helps create unity and repetition–two very important elements successful interior design!

Neutral finishes on the floors, walls and large items such as rugs and drapes help to reign in this bold colorscheme. Variations of shades of blue create depth and interest in the family gathering room. Small touches of green create cohesiveness with the more abundant greens of the sunroom.

Between the gathering room and sunroom is the casual dining space off the kitchen. Small touches of purple and cobalt tie together color schemes of the two adjoining rooms.

These rich colors are a great way to add a touch of glam into any space. Whether they are used as an accent color or the main scheme for the entire room they are guaranteed to create a bold and dramatic space.

Allison
