**Nerd Alert:

I am obsessed with historical period dramas.  Something about the old castles, amazing costumes and confusing poetry-speak just keep me coming back for more.  My latest addiction… Downton Abbey.

The show is shot on location at Highclere Castle, whose interiors feature an eclectic mix of Gothic Revival, Jacobean and Italian influences. Watching shows like these make me want to crawl into the TV, lace up a corset and go down for tea in the drawing room. But it is possible to bring a little bit of these historic interiors into your modern day home too. Here is how I broke it down:

a. The use of Silk Damask upholstered walls was quite common in great houses of this time. Silk walls not the ideal solution in your house of children and pets? Try replicating the Damask pattern with this cleanable area rug by Artisan.

b. Highboys were developed in England in the late 17th century as smaller version of a chest.  Use this Baroque inspired chest of drawers from Ralph Lauren Home for a more practical way to store your goodies.

c. Loving the pop of color on this gentleman’s riding jacket. Toss in a pop of color to offset all the neutrals in the space.

d. Lady Sybil shows off her new modern outfit… pants! (*GASP*). Add some contemporary flair to the space by using this Canvas Art to add texture and interest.

e. Gilded Gilded Gilded! Add touches of gold to mimic the gilded décor the of time.
