Inspiration can be found all around us. You just have to know where to look and how to dissect the components of what you are seeing and translate it to your interior style. In this series of posts “Inventing Inspiration” I will guide you through this process and show you how to transform everyday images into your next design project!

This week: street fashion

I was immediately drawn to this woman and her fierce combination of pattern and color. This is how I broke it down:

A-B. Create a solid base of saturated color to center the space around this will allow you to introduce other patterns and textures without overpowering the space. I chose a black crushed velvet high back chair and a farmhouse inspired credenza.

C. Add pattern to create interest. I chose this amazing hexagon print wall paper from Cole & Sons. Try using it on an accent wall and painting the rest of the walls to match the neutral background of the pattern.

D-E. Pull together the rest of the space with accents of gold, red and teal. Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns!  The pattern on the ottoman mimics the pattern in the wall covering without being a perfect match!

F. Just like when you dress yourself, don’t forget the jewelry… in this case the art! This print from West Elm mimics the stacked shape of her headband and brings in a few additional colors into the space.

We can create an inspired interior from things we see around us every day. What inspires you?

Sincerely,
Allison
