We love design kitchens. Can you tell by the project reveal, or this one, or this one… you get the point right? Kitchens are the heart of the home, the place we spend the most time, and likely the most expensive reno you will do inside your home. All the more reason to get it right. From planning through installation let’s check out how the Center Street Kitchen came to life.

THE BEFORE.

Aside from being a nonfunctional layout this kitchen was entirely lacking color, which was not going to work for this color-loving (maybe obsessed?) client. We were challenged to bring in color and pattern in a way that still could feel classic and timeless.

THE PLAN.

First and foremost was to address the layout. The kitchen space was actually quite large but was cut in half by a peninsula that limited the kitchen workspace. By ditching that peninsula we carved out just enough room for a prep island.

Creating a balance between classic and colorful was important for the finishes and colors we selected.  Classic shapes like subway tile and small hex floor tile are infused with unique color. We opted for a dark teal cabinet color and a classic marble look counter top to help balance the space and keep it feeling light.  And or course no Curio Kitchen would be complete without finding a corner to carve out some wallpaper. The new open storage pantry wall was the perfect spot for some playful + colorful pattern!
