Last weekend I got the chance to participate in a wonderful event to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. The first annual “Redo View and Brew” is an up-cycled furniture contest where 10 participants find an old, outdated or un-useful item and turn it into something functional and beautiful. I picked up this dresser at a local thrift store for $47. The exterior was a little rough but I loved it’s overall clean lines and solid wood construction!
I have to give all the hard labor credit to my extremely handy husband. He put in so much effort to execute my design vision for this piece. The dresser was fully sanded, primed and painted in this fab deep blue (Sherwin Williams 6244 Naval to be exact!) We removed the top two drawers and added a custom built wine storage rack to perfectly fit 16 bottles!
Gold upholstery tacks outline the perimeter and create beautiful contrast against the dark blue. I loved the original hardware that was on the center drawers so we salvaged those, repainted them and replaced them on the outer drawers. Hardware for the center drawers was created from a screw-in eye hook and a simple metal ring.
Dresser: $47
Paint: $15
Nailheads: $15
Wine Rack Material: $15
Center Pulls: $1.20
TOTAL: $78.20
Overall the event was a great success in raising money for our local Habitat chapter and promoting the idea of reusing existing items before sending them to the landfill. Can’t wait to be part of the event next year!
Sincerely,
Allison
