No matter the price point, sofas are an investment.

Real talk: there is a too-good-to-be-true factor when it comes to sofa prices. Even a ‘save’ sofa will be around $1,200…I would never advise going below that as the quality will be so poor that it won’t even be worth your time (and, of course, money).

Definitely go for the splurge if you:

  • Have the money to spend now.
  • Don’t change your style preferences often.
  • Believe in a quality investment as a bargain when considering the cost over its lifetime ( a $5000 sofa over 20 years vs. a $1500 sofa over 3 years).

We define ‘splurging’ on a sofa to mean investing in QUALITY. Better overall quality can be seen in things like a hardwood frame, 8-way hand tied construction, and higher quality upholstery which is a more durable and stain-resistant performance fabric.

Though it might seem scary to invest in an expensive piece of furniture when you have young kids or pets, a splurge has a longer life expectancy due to its quality construction and selection of materials.

If you’re going for it with your sofa purchase, we recommend going with washable materials, neutral colors, and timeless lines. Quality + timeless selections will ensure you will have your sofa for a long time!

2. Cameron Square Arm Slipcover Sofa                   5. Shay Loveseat
3. Tallulah Sofa                                                            6. Sven Sofa

Save on your sofa if:

  • An investment piece of furniture will break the bank.
  • You KNOW 100% for a fact your kids will somehow find a way to destroy the commercial grade fabric.
  • You know your style will change in a few years.
  • You are purchasing a sofa for a space you don’t plan to live in for long.

If budget and body fluids are a factor pushing you towards a ‘save’ sofa, we recommend choosing something fun and really reflective of who you are. When choosing a sofa that will inevitably need to be replaced in the near-ish future, unlike a splurge sofa, you might as well be bold and trendy.  Go with a more trendy style like a tufted mid century piece or something in a bold bright color.

Regardless of whether you in the mood to splurge or save, have FUN choosing a sofa that is comfortable (for Netflix binging, duh) and makes your space feel welcoming and put together.

Sincerely,
Allison
