Sequins Eve 2019 is upon us and we are ready to welcome in a new decade, which means it is time for our annual predictions post. Last year we were welcoming in florals and more florals, black bathrooms, and patterned backsplashes and floors.

In 2020 we are predicting softening colors, rounded shapes, and upleveling artwork. Check out all our 2020 design predictions below.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Something like that, right? In design talk, this means that all the cool whites and grays of the past few years have led to warmer color trends sneaking up for 2020.

This prediction especially rings true for the kitchen. For several years we have seen a lot of cool tones like gray and white. Expect these kitchen colors to warm up in 2020. I personally loving on a warm almond color like we presented for the Pine street kitchen reno starting early 2020!

Quartz has had a big design moment over the last few years. And while we still love a fresh, shiny white quartz we are loving the depth and sophisticated feel a dark natural stone can bring to a space.

In a BOLD move away from white counters, we are predicting dark, natural, granites in honed and leather finishes. Check out how we used it in the Lakeshore bathroom renovation we wrapped up just before Christmas (project reveal coming soon! ).

Your fanciest art isn’t just for the living room anymore! Set it free and let it adorn the bathroom or kitchen in 2020. It’s a new decade, you make the rules!

Shop a few of our favorites here. We love the depth and texture these bring when mixed with interiors of all styles!

Remember our pink puffy heart love for blush paints? We predict this trend spreads from walls to…everywhere else. Just like the sage green trend we predict pastels make a comeback as another reaction to the cool, gray and saturated colors of 2019. CAUTION: be careful with how you use these colors, it can take some planning to keep them looking sophisticated.

If you LOVE the idea of using soft pastels but feel apprehensive about selecting them as fixed finishes in your home start out by shopping this round up:

We are predicting the introduction of more interest architectural elements making way into interiors. Much like our prediction for architectural wall paneling last year, this year we will see more arches in interiors as a way of curating more intentional design.

Check out how we are planning to use them in a Boutique Hotel on Mackinac Island.
