One of the most common concerns when designing living spaces for our clients is making things ‘kid-friendly.’ And, after being a mom (of babies, toddlers and dogs) for years, I’m here to tell you: no such thing.
Wait! Don’t panic! All I’m saying is this: any space that has kids and family life running through it will have a certain amount of wear and tear.
We focus our design process on making that space work WELL for you, which includes keeping safety, convenience and ease (see also: wipeable surfaces) in mind…and it will be cute, too. Real cute.
The living room is often the living-snacking-playing-drawing-hosting-napping-wrestling room when you have small kids, so we’ve collected a list of coffee tables to center a much loved and used space that keep the needs of families in mind.
KID FRIENDLY COFFEE TABLES
The Bermuda Hammered Brass Coffee Table from Pottery Barn does away with corners (phew!) and keeps the glam of metallics while providing some relief from constant fingerprint wiping.
We love the clean lines of the Safavieh Woodruff Oval Coffee Table at Target with the option of some extra storage space below for when it’s time to put the coloring books away after the kids go to bed and bring out some cocktails and candles.
The Ceni Ottoman from Article does double duty as a footrest and a table (and probably a trampoline) for those looking to bring some soft finishes to their kid-friendly living room.
Say it with me now: Leather. Is. Wipeable. We are very into the shape, color and overall look of CB2’s Square Leather Ottoman Pouf.
For the more daring among us, the Silas Woven Coffee Table from Anthropologie has a sophisticated, natural look (natural color variations are your friend) while minimizing (you guessed it!) corners, edges and other things that lead to stitches.
