Bad news first: kitchen renovations are expensive. Good news? They are usually a very good return on investment, whether that means having a functional, heavily used space in your home or increasing the resale value. At the kick off of any project we have to get right down to the nitty gritty:: What does a kitchen reno actually cost?
The most important thing to remember is the HGTV isn’t telling you the truth. It’s difficult to create transformation in a kitchen for less than $30,000, particularly if you need two or more of the following: new cabinets, relocation of walls or appliances, new counters, new appliances or the help if hired pros.

HOW MUCH DOES A KITCHEN RENO ACTUALLY COST?
How do these costs break down? Let’s talk it out.
CABINETRY – If you’re changing out the cabinets, the range is big, from $20,000 to $50,000 if you choose an online vendor or IKEA, or even more if you are having them all custom-made. This price tag feels big, but the cabinetry is a HUGE part of the function and style of your new kitchen.
COUNTERS – This can vary depending on the size of your counter space, but we generally suggest a range of $6000-$12,000 for quartz or stone.
APPLIANCES – Replacing a few key items or the whole kit and caboodle? Depending on what you choose from refrigerator, dishwasher, range, range hood and microwave, this can be anywhere from $10k and higher for mid-grade appliances. The price keeps rising when you add things like a larger range, decorative range hoods, under counter microwave, and other custom options.
FIXTURES AND ACCESSORIES – Your lighting, hardware, plumbing fixtures and accessories will add $5,000-$8,000 to your budget.
LABOR – This cost varies widely depending on if any of it is DIY or if you have a handy friend or parent that comes to help you out. How much you rearrange the space changes this cost as well since bigger changes will require things like a structural engineer, permits and additional electric work. The overall range is $30k+
Add that all up and we are talking anywhere from $60,000-$100,000 + for a full gut kitchen reno.
