Can you believe another year is coming to a close?! We had a wonderful and busy 2017 full of amazing projects ( like the midcentury cottage, this family friendly living room makeover, this totally to-die-for playroom for a virtual client, and who could forget the amazing project reveal for Blueprint for Change ).  As this year draws to a close and we reflect on these projects we can’t help but think– what are going to be the big interior design trends in 2018?

Last year we predicted lots of dark moody colors and over sized floral prints among other things, and we definitely saw those trends growing throughout the year. Here are our big predictions for 2018:

INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS 2018

1. Continuation of dark saturated colors from 2017.

We saw tons of dark colors in interiors in 2017 and I expect that trend to keep growing. We love the dramatic twist a dark paint puts on any space, especially a bedroom or powder room. One of our current favorites is Sherwin Williams 7069 Iron Ore!

2. Copper + Matte Black

Brass has been a big trend for the past few years, but we are seeing a few new metals make a strong impact recently. Copper is a nice departure from the brass trend but still adds warmth and an interesting design element to any space. We are also LOVING on matte black fixtures. They were hard to come by in 2017, but we are seeing more and more options on the market.  Matte black lighting and hardware mix great with both copper and brass. Unsure how to mix metals check out this post on how to mix finishes like a pro!

3. Statement Lighting + Painted Ceilings

The ceiling is often a forgotten part of a room. but not in 2018! look out for accent ceilings– bold colors, wallpaper and ceiling medallions–all used to create a stunning and unexpected design feature.  Pair with a statement light fixture and you are sure to have stunning space for 2018!

4. Woven Textures

As much as we love layering and mixing pattern we are also suckers for a good texture.  Look out for lots of layers of woven textures in 2018. Mix in textural rattan baskets for storage, layer baskets on the wall for a textural design element, and add piles of woven pillows on a bed or sofa to create a cozy and simple look.

5. Lavender is the New Blush

Blush and light pinks had a big moment in 2017 interiors. In 2018 we expect Lavender to become a super popular pastel. Whether it is used as an accent or a paint color for a whole room, we love this super soft color! Check out some of our favorites from Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore here

We are super excited to incorporate some of these interior design trends in our 2018 projects.  Are you interested in working with us–either locally in the Marquette, MI area or virtually— shoot us an email and we can chat about your project!

Sincerely,
Allison
